eraserheads reunion concert: ASTIG, PARE KO!!!

Monday, September 1, 2008

“What a rip-off!” a friend overheard someone screaming after it was announced that they had to cut the concert short after Ely Buendia collapsed and was rushed to the hospital.  I was like, “Dude!  MAGKAKASAMA SILA!”  What more could you ask for?

Sure, bitin.  But hell, it was one f*cking great first set!

Sure, Radio Head Media Solutions, Inc. managed to come up with a crappy set-up for the concert putting unnecessary huge gaps between the stage, VIP, Patron, and GenAd sections.  But they made the reunion possible amidst all of the various forces threatening to cancel the concert altogether (the sponsorship controversy and Ely’s mom’s death among others).

Junkies!  Brix, Portia, and I an hour before the concert.

The size of the crowd that turned up was a testament to the phenomenon that was and I believe still IS Eraserheads.  I’ve seen the four members of the disbanded group perform with their current bands live, but it didn’t raise as much as a single hair on my back.  But seeing them together on stage for the first time (and probably the last also) after six years was an exhilirating experience.

The anticipation was heart-stopping.  They opened with Alapaap.  And when Ely began to croon, “May isang umaga….”  I had goosebumps all over.  And before I knew it, I WAS CRYING.  OA noh?  Pero ibang level talaga.  It was like getting high on pot, only better.

Then everyone went wild.

They sung a total of fifteen songs during the first set:

Alapaap
Ligaya
Sembreak
Hey Jay
Harana
Fruitcake
Toyang
Kama Supra
Kailan
Wag Kang Matakot
Kaliwete
With A Smile
Shake Yer Head
Wag Mo Nang Itanong
Lightyears

And according to Myx Music News (thanks, Madel!), here’s the lineup of their supposed second set:

Maskara
Poorman’s Grave
Torpedo
Trip to Jerusalem
Back 2 Me
Maseland Bahaghari
Maling Akala
Tikman
Spolarium
Magasin
Para Sa Masa
Overdrive
Pare Ko
Minsan
Huling El Bimbo

But according to Philmusic.com they were supposed to do three sets.  THREE SETS!  Just imagine!  Raymund Marasigan, in the Subsandwich mailing list, said, “We prepared 3 sets. the first was just a warm up. the remaining two was going to be the fun part.  There was more videos and light shows and pyro in store for everyone.”  He also said that he’s open to do another Eheads concert.  But I guess that’s dreaming too much.

They make awesome music.  They really do.  And even if they had to cut the concert short, it was f*cking worth it.
