january in a nutshell
Monday, January 28, 2008It’s been a busy busy month for The Penny Lane. But it’s been a superbly fun one too! Here’s a wrap up of the events that launched a fantabulous year for me
A SEMI-REUNION WITH BORA ‘06 GURLIES
January 5, 2008.
Bora Gurlies. (L-R) Dhez, Ces, Djong, and Koryn.
Finally, finally. I can’t believe it took us two years after that fantastic Bora vacation last 2006 to get together. It wasn’t actually a full-fledged reunion coz we were missing two gurlies that night (Joei and Pat, don’t go a-missing next time!). Nevertheless, it was good to do some catching up with each other.
"Yayaman ako!" I think, is our collective mantra for 2008. If conversation topics are a testament to how old you are, then ours would say that we’ve pretty much matured over time :p
It’s funny how priorities change so fast. I mean, there was a time when Djong and I would go gaga over planning our summer just to make sure we wouldn’t miss our then "Holy Weeks at Bora" tradition. But now it’s all about seeing all the rest of the Philippines and exploring the world. But of course, with our "Travelling the World" dreams comes our financial woes and the reality of how much it would really take for us to actually travel the world. Yes, yes, I know. I slipped. I wasn’t able to resist the charms of Bora hence my trip to its shores this Holy Week. But I still haven’t forgotten "Visit new local destinations" goal that’s why I’m taking a sidetrip to Dumaguete. Smart, right? Hihi.
So to sum it up, our conversations revolved around how to get rich so we can become jet setters :p
After dinner, Dhez hopped off to another get-together while Djong, Ces, and I consumed a pitcher of dark beer in Grappa’s. It was fun reminiscing about college and about how boys can sometimes be so immature! (Calling Pao…if you’re reading this, yes, we talked about you :p Haha, kidding! Alabyu!) Again, we were reminded of how much things have changed over the years (it’s been five years since we graduated from college!). And we all agree the only thing that stayed the same was our gorgeous looks…hehehe… :p
Theme for the night: floral and pretty. And a touch of HUMBLENESS too! Hahaha.
REGGAE HIGH FOR ‘08
January 18. 2008.
Having fun yet?
The Sexy Nomad and I decided to celebrate the good fortune 2008 is ushering in our lives by having our first Brownman Revival gig for the year. Beer, reggae music, and a whole lot of dancing….FUN!

Reggae chicks. (L-R) Jowi, Ninette, Jen The Sexy Nomad, Annemarie, Koryn.
My Favorite Lovers. (L) Adam Mordo and The Sexy Nomad; (R) Jen drunk on Cossack.
Adam Mordo and The Penny Lane.
Post-gig tambay. A little chat with lead guitarist Alphy and Paw of BMR’s Steady Crew before wrapping up the night (or morning).
BABY SHOWER FOR THE BUNTIS
January 19, 2008.
For Baby Danielle. (L) Gifts from Titos and Titas. (R) Cake from Tita Rochelle.
With The Buntis 38 weeks into her pregnancy, her friends and I organized a baby shower at The Astoria Plaza in Ortigas (thanks to The Mister for generously sponsoring the venue!)
Titos and Titas. (Clockwise) Tito Fritz, Ces, Tita Shey, Tito Mikel, Tita Rochelle, and Tito Johann.
Fritz had this idea of doing a "Dress Up The Baby" game where the guests (who were divided into Team Conrad and Team Ainna) had to dress up their "babies" using diapers, a couple of measly strings and laces. The result? Disaster!

Let the games begin. (L) Team Conrad; (R) Team Ainna.
Who won, you ask? Judge for yourself….
Brat attack. (L) "Baby" April for Team Conrad; (R) "Baby" Erwin for Team Ainna.
After unanimously choosing "Baby" April as the winner, we went on with the gift-giving.
Gift giving. (L) Mommy Ainna and Daddy Conrad; (R) Tito Jesus holding a box-full of booties (He’s the one holding it because the box is pink and Djong loathes pink hehe).
The shower ended around 6pm. But since the place was reserved ’til the next day, Con, Ate Ains, Carlo, Clars and I decided to stay overnight. But what can you do to make an overnight stay in a hotel fun? DRINK of course! So with Rochelle’s pangungunsinti and Erwin’s generous contribution, we bought a bottle of vodka which led to a lot of videoke-ing and scheming for the Holy Week.

Vodka, babeh! *HIC*
"Hindi pa kami lasheng." Carlo and Fritz.
"Hindi pa talaga kami lasheng pramis." (L-R) Clars, Rochelle, Moi, Ate Ains, Ami.
Hahaha, whatta way to end a baby shower!
BEER AND BROCOLLI WEEKEND.
January 25-26, 2008.
In lieu of Boy B’s birthday, we spent another after-work pamorningan drinking session where Mommy Melai and I took center stage by storm (meaning, hindi namin binatawan ang mic!) We stayed in Janero ’til around 6am. Then my fellow beautiful friend, Jane, and I went to McDo and stuffed ourselves with pancakes and McMuffins before going home.
I haven’t even reached the gates to Dreamland yet when Ate Ains texted me and said I could meet up with her and Conrad in Makati around 2pm. So I hurriedly dressed up, went to Angela’s apartment to pick up the strawberries from Miranda, and sped off to Makati. But not without tasting Angela’s famous (or infamous? Haha, peace Angela!) beef brocolli.
She promised to cook me another batch once she’s perfected the recipe. I’m holding on to that promise, Angela!

Whew. See? I’m a very busy busy girl! Hahaha. Did you notice how the words "fantastic," "great," "happy," "fun," and "beer" keep popping up on my entries? Well… if the beginning of the year is a testament to how the rest of it will go… then I’m so excited to experience the remaining 11 months of 2008!

in fairness, malambot yung beef! i hate yung mga parang chewing gum pag nginunguya hehe.

hamo, next time i’m in baguio, will buy again until she perfects cooking it and we can all safely eat. wala naman akong ibang pasasalubungan eh.
